Association of Zoos
and Aquariums (AZA)
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) was founded in 1924
and has more than 200 accredited zoos and aquariums in the United States,
Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and Hong Kong. Accredited
members are zoos and aquariums that have met AZA's high standards for
veterinary care, exhibits, physical facilities, operations, safety,
security, finances, staffing, education, conservation and research.
American
Association of Zoo Keepers
AAZK's mission is to provide a resource and a forum of continuing
education for the animal care professional and to support zoo and
aquarium personnel in their roles as animal care givers, scientific
researchers, public educators and conservationists.
IUCN
The World Conservation Union is the world’s largest and most
important conservation network. The Union brings together 111
government agencies, more than 800 non-governmental organizations (NGOs),
and some 10,000 scientists and experts from 181 countries in a unique
worldwide partnership. The Union’s mission is to influence, encourage and
assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and
diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is
equitable and ecologically sustainable.
IUCN Redlist
The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species provides taxonomic,
conservation status and distribution information on taxa that have been
globally evaluated using the IUCN
Red List Categories and Criteria. This system is designed to
determine the relative risk of extinction, and the main purpose of the IUCN
Red List is to catalogue and highlight those taxa that are facing a higher
risk of global extinction (i.e. those listed as Critically Endangered,
Endangered and Vulnerable).
The
Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG)
CBSG is part of IUCN representing one of the largest of
over 110 Specialist Groups comprising the Species Survival Commission (SSC),
one of six IUCN Commissions. CBSG is an international conservation organization whose
mission is "to assist conservation of threatened animal and
plant species through scientific management of small populations in
wild habitats, with linkage to captive populations where
needed".

The
broad aim of the PPHSG is to promote the long-term conservation of wild
pigs, peccaries and hippos and, where possible, the recovery of their
populations to viable levels.

Specialist Subgroup
The IUCN/SSC Hippo Specialist SubGroup promotes
scientifically-based action for the conservation of common and pygmy hippos.
We work to develop and execute programs that study, save, restore and manage
hippo populations and their habitats.

World
Zoo and Aquarium Association (WAZA)
WAZA's mission is to guide, encourage and support the zoos, aquariums,
and like-minded organizations of the world in animal care and welfare,
environmental education and global conservation.
Australasian
Regional Association of Zoological Parks and Aquaria (ARAZPA)
ARAZPA's membership includes the major zoos and
aquariums in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the
South Pacific Islands. ARAZPA is working towards developing zoos
and aquariums as centres of excellence in
conservation,
education
and research.
Canadian Association of
Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA)
The Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums is a non-profit
organization established to promote the welfare of animals and encourage the
advancement of education, conservation and science. The CAZA site is
intended to bring CAZA Members together, to exchange information, share
ideas, and provide an opportunity to showcase the many exciting ways that
zoos and aquariums are evolving
European Association of Zoos
and Aquaria (EAZA)
EAZA promotes cooperation for furthering regional collection planning and
wildlife conservation, particulary through internationally coordinated
breeding programmes of wild animals such as the European Endangered Species
Programmes (EEP).
British & Irish
Association of Zoos and Aquariums
BIAZA is the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums. We are the
professional body representing the best zoos and aquariums in Britain and
Ireland. Our Member Collections pride themselves on their excellent animal
welfare, education and conservation work. BIAZA supports them in their work
and helps promote the work of good zoos and aquariums.

- Zoo Conservation Outreach
Group (ZCOG)
ZCOG is an organization designed to provide technical, material, and
financial support to Latin American zoos and aquaria in their wildlife and
habitat conservation efforts. Examples of past projects assisted by ZCOG
include the Bi-national Andean Condor Conservation Project, the Scarlet
Macaw Reintroduction Initiative, and the Mexican Baird’s Tapir Research
Project. In addition, ZCOG outreach committees organize a variety of
regional training workshops for Latin American zoo professionals.
