Zoo Camp 2007

DEFENSE!

Grab your safari jacket and join the Zoo for an exciting adventure, with up close animal encounters, behind the scenes tours, crafts and more, what better way to explore the world around you. From stripes that confuse to tongues that are blue, discover the fascinating world of animal defense.

 Program topics:

            Session I:    Kindergarten       June 11-15         9am-12noon
    
      Zookids who are 5 or will be entering kindergarten. Snack and drink provided.

            Color Everywhere
            
Nature is so colorful, let’s look at the colors around us.

 

            Session II:   First Grade        June 18-22         9am-12noon
    
      Zookids who will be entering the first grade. Snack and drink provided.

            Big or Small
  
         We’ll discover how even the smallest creatures have amazing defenses.

 

Session III: Second/Third Grade June 25-29         9am-2:00PM
Zookids who will be entering the 2nd or 3rd grade. Bring a sack lunch, drinks provided.

Now You See Them, Now You Don’t
Explore the wonders of camouflage and how it is an important way for animals to defend themselves.

 

Session IV:   Fourth/Fifth Grade July 9-13     9am-2:00PM
Zookids who will be entering the 4th or 5th grade. Bring a sack lunch, drinks provided.

Claws, Teeth and Talons
Animals defend themselves in many ways, we’ll take a closer look at some of the most dangerous animals around.

 

Session V:    Sixth/Seventh/Eighth Grade   July 16-20    9am-3:30PM
Zookids who will be entering the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. Bring a sack lunch, drinks provided.

Amazing Adaptations
How do they do that? We’ll find out the answers to how spider monkeys swing through the trees, how to get a hedgehog to unroll from a ball, and so much more.

 

 Session VI:  Second/Third Grade July 23-27         9am-2pm
Zookids who are entering second or third grade. Bring a sack lunch, drink provided.

             Now You See Them, Now You Don’t
  
         Explore the wonders of camouflage and how it is an important way for animals to defend themselves.

 

 General Information:

-         Registration is required

-         All camps are held at the Glen Oak Zoo-some camps may include field trips

-         Programs are held rain or shine

-         Snacks and beverages will be provided. Campers in sessions III-VI need to bring a sack lunch

-         Before care is available for all sessions from 8:00-9:00 AM for an additional $10/day

-          After care is available for session V from 3:30-5:00PM for an additional $10/day

-         Each Zoo camper will be experiencing a program especially designed to meet the needs, interests and expectations appropriate to their age and developmental stage, so it is important that the age guidelines are followed. Please do not request to enroll children in other age categories.

Fees:

-         Fees include a “zoo-riffic” t-shirt and group picture of the campers.

-         Sessions I and II: Zoo Members $90, Non-members $110

-         Sessions III, IV and VI: Zoo Members $100, Non-members $120

-         Session V : Zoo Members $110, Non-members $130

 

NOTE: Registration fees are non-refundable. The Zoo Education Department reserves the right to cancel programs with insufficient registration. A full refund will be given for program cancellations.
